Confidentiality Practices
Confidentiality practices in the medical home ensure the privacy and protection of screening test results and information discussed during visits and follow-up care. Such practices are an important component of ADHD care. They are best introduced to patients and families early—before the patient is interviewed without a parent present.
The assurance that unless there is inherent danger the details of all conversations will remain private can positively influence adolescents to access care, answer questions honestly, and engage in and maintain a therapeutic alliance with health care professionals.
Also see example confidentiality statements for adolescents and families, which may be used and tailored to the needs of the practice and patient population.
