Elements of an ADHD Treatment Plan

An effective ADHD treatment plan considers the following elements. Once established, all elements of the treatment plan require systematic and timely review.

❑ Target goals
❑ Core ADHD symptoms and function
❑ Presence and/or emergence of comorbid conditions
❑ Physical parameters: heart rate, blood pressure, height, and weight
❑ Behavioral/training interventions
❑ Medication (when indicated) including efficacy, adherence, side effects, safety, and misuse
❑ School services/classroom interventions
❑ Response to the treatment plan, adjusting as needed
❑ Care coordination with specialty or mental health provider(s)
❑ Provision of anticipatory guidance
❑ Ongoing education
❑ Transition assessment and planning
❑ Advocacy information/skill development
