Guidelines and Policies for This Course

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) supports the following guidelines and policies, which provide a standard of care to improve judicious antibiotic prescribing.

• AAP 2021 Policy Statement, Antibiotic Stewardship in Pediatrics contains guiding principles for appropriate antibiotic prescribing to optimize clinical outcomes while minimizing the unintended consequences of inappropriate antibiotic use.

• The Pediatric Antibiotic Stewardship Program Toolkit, a joint effort of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and Health Care Without Harm, includes tools and resources for clinicians anywhere children receive medical care, from inpatient to outpatient settings, including urgent care and the emergency room.
