Oral corticosteroids (OCSs)

Short courses of OCSs are used to gain prompt control of asthma or to treat exacerbations.

OCSs may be used for long-term treatment in patients with severe persistent asthma not controlled by other modalities. Patients requiring long-term OCS therapy should be seen regularly by an asthma specialist.
