  • After a visit, document in the patient chart that anticipatory guidance was provided.
  • Use a standardized documentation form, eg, the Bright Futures Visit Documentation Form to document anticipatory guidance discussion.
  • Add a printed sticker listing the Bright Futures priorities to the chart for infancy through early childhood, if you are using a basic template for all health supervision visits.
  • Incorporate anticipatory guidance documentation into your electronic health record system or paper chart templates. This has a two-fold benefit: it saves documentation time for HCPs and serves as a checklist for items that need to be discussed at future health supervision or acute care visits as the child gets older.
  • Consider implementing a checklist of the Bright Futures priorities into your office system (eg, poster, in each chart), if your system (paper or electronic) cannot be modified.
