  • Do not prop the bottle or put the baby to sleep with anything other than plain water.
  • Encourage elimination of the bottle by 12 months of age.
  • Minimize sticky foods (eg, raisins) and brush the teeth after feeding.
  • Limit number of sugar attacks per day:
    • Discourage the use of sippy cups containing liquids other than water.
    • Combine juice and milk with meals; offer only plain water between meals.
    • Limit juice drinking to 4 ounces per day.
