Discuss with Fernando’s family healthy eating and drinking.
- Do not prop the bottle or put the baby to sleep with anything other than plain water.
- Encourage elimination of the bottle by 12 months of age.
- Minimize sticky foods (eg, raisins) and brush the teeth after feeding.
- Limit number of sugar attacks per day:
- Discourage the use of sippy cups containing liquids other than water.
- Combine juice and milk with meals; offer only plain water between meals.
- Limit juice drinking to 4 ounces per day.
