Key Clinical Activities
The key clinical activities in this EQIPP course include the following:
- Patient and Family Engagement
- Preventive Care Activities and Services
Patient and Family Engagement
Effective health supervision visits support healthy child development and foster a collaborative partnership in the child’s health care. The practice promotes desired social, developmental, mental, behavioral, and health outcomes of infants, children and adolescents by engaging patients/families in the following ways:
- Elicit and address the interests and concerns of the patient/family.
- Learn from and build on the strengths of the patient/family.
- Assess and address social determinants (drivers) of health that emerge from the family’s and community’s circumstances, and that affect health in positive and negative ways.
- Anticipate emerging issues that the patient/family may face and provide guidance and education.
Preventive Care Activities and Services
The health supervision visit allows for the comprehensive assessment of a child, the opportunity to promote health and well-being, and the occasion for further evaluation if concerns are detected. Preventive care activities and services recommended in the Bright Futures Guidelines, 4th Edition, and the Bright Futures/AAP Periodicity Schedule can help detect or prevent serious diseases and medical problems before they become major concerns. The Periodicity Schedule recommends age-appropriate screenings, procedures, and services, based on the child’s development stage, and that are recognized standards of medical and dental practice to promote optimal health.
The following assessments and screenings are covered in this course:
