Food swamp

A food swamp is a geographic areas with a high density of establishments that sell high calorie "fast food" and "junk food." A comprehensive review of research done on food swamps by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, found that 10 out of 12 studies provided evidence that fast food restaurants are more likely to be located in areas where there are higher concentrations communities of color than areas populated by White individuals.
