Key Clinical Activities - Generalist Track
The key clinical activities (KCAs) in the Generalist Track for this EQIPP course are illustrated here and include the following:
- Initial Visit
- Follow-up Visits
Initial Visit
This first KCA, Initial Visit, addresses quality improvement strategies to improve practices’ methods to establish a diagnosis of asthma, classify asthma severity in the initial assessment, initiate treatment based on asthma severity and using stepwise, and equip the patient/family with a written asthma action plan to help them control the disease.
Follow-up Visits
The goals of asthma management are to achieve good symptom control and minimize future risk. This second KCA, Follow-up Visits, addresses quality improvement strategies for ongoing asthma management.
Regularly scheduled return visits are essential to review adherence to the treatment plan, to check inhaler technique, to assess asthma control and lung function, and to adjust treatment when appropriate to achieve asthma control with the least amount of medication. It also recommends an annual flu shot for patients ≥6 months.
