Perfrom oral health risk assessment
Key points to remember about performing the oral health risk assessment:
- Complete a caries risk assessment including the examination of teeth and gums at all health supervision visits beginning at the 6th-month check up. This will enable you to evaluate the child’s oral health with the goal of preventing caries through interventions and education.
- The assessment should include examination of teeth and gums.
- Refer patients to a dental professional when at risk for dental caries.
- The Oral Health Previsit Questionnaire (also in Spanish) created for this EQIPP course can help identify risk factors for dental caries as well as direct oral health anticipatory guidance discussions with families.
