Course Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to apply knowledge from AAP endorsed guidelines, policy statements, and recommendations for health supervision visits to do the following: 

• Ask family members/caregivers at every visit about tobacco/vaping products using recommended questions.
• Recommend tobacco cessation, including counseling on the detrimental health effects of tobacco smoke exposure (TSE), to family members/caregivers who use tobacco/vaping products.
• Offer at least one tobacco cessation referral to family members/caregivers who use tobacco/vaping products.
• Screen patients age 11+ with a recommended screening tool for all vaping/tobacco products in all settings.
• Recommend vaping/tobacco use cessation and provide at least one option for cessation support, including a pharmacotherapy option when indicated to patients who screen positive.
• Provide a positive message and offer counseling to prevent initiation of use to patients who screen negative.
